H2O Ventures, Inc., the company behind the first underwater hotel in the Philippines, expands its tourism-portfolio in the Philippines unveiling its second Philippine venture and promising to add three more in the years to come.

The company, led by venture capitalist Lim Chee Yong, recently unveiled the P2 billion Worldhotel and Residences Makati that will rise at the corner of Kalayaan and Makati Avenues in Makati City. This is the second hotel of the company after H2o hotel beside Yong’s Manila Ocean Park in Manila Bay.

The company has partnered with hotel sales and marketing firm Worldhotels and hospitality management consultancy firm C2G for the marketing and management of the hotel, according to Lim. Worldhotels is responsible for marketing the H2o-owned hotel through its portfolio of hotel it markets, carrying the Worldhotel brand.

World Hotel and Residences Makati, at 40-storey, will have a total of 401 hotel rooms divided into 149 serviced apartments and 252 guest rooms.

Lim expressed confidence on the Philippines’ tourism prospects citing efforts to improve the country’s various tourism-related infrastructures particularly airports.

“There is huge market,” said Roland Jegge, vice president of World Hotel in Asia Pacific.

Jegge noted that compared to its neighboring Bali in Indonesia, the Philippines has lesser number of hotels which gives it greater prospects for the hotel business in the Philippines.

Lim said Worldhotel & Residences Makati aspires to be “a five-star accommodation that will be the best and largest hotel in the Kalayaan-Makati Avenue vicinity.”

“It is a new-generation hotel built for discerning customers. Modern, edgy and hip, the hotel will feature a one-of-a-kind 400-square meter suspended acrylic swimming pool... The hotel features several F&B and entertainment - the Alfresco dining and Ground floor cafe’; Pool Bar at the second floor; The Spa Cafe at the 4th floor; Hotel and Spa All-day dining at the 5th floor and Roof Deck Bar,” according Lim.

“There will be a total of 63 units of 1-bedroom and 20 units of two-bedroom service apartments in the complex. Amenities are lap pool with spa bubble pool, residents’ health club, lounge, library, billiard room and roof top garden separate from the hotel facilities... Worldhotel and Residences Makati aspires to be a sanctuary in a busy cosmopolitan lifestyle for local, business and leisure travellers. A place for relaxation, comfort and satisfaction. This is an idyllic escape at the heart of the city,” also said Lim.

World Hotel & Residences Makati will be designed by Singaporean interior architectural firm Suying Design which had undertaken numerous projects ranging from private residences to condominium and commercial complexes spanning from Hong Kong to mainland China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malasia, and Singapore.

Lim said Suying’s work “highlights the elements of style and elegance, combined with a clever execution to satisfy both visual and functional purposes” that will be borne by Worldhotel and Residences Makati.

Lim said H2O Ventures is also interested to put up hotels in Busuanga, Boracay and Cebu which could cost $200 million.

“H2o Ventures is now on the lookout for landowners who are interested to partner with us in developing our fifth hotel project and another World Hotel property in the heart of Metro Manila,” said Lim.

In Busuanga, Palawan, H2o Venture is planning to design the structure that it is submerged in the sea similar to one of the features to be found in H2o’s Hotel H2o.

The company is encouraged by the experience it had with H2o whose occupancy is usually at 75 percent. Hotel H2o also exceeded its target for last year by more than a half, according to hotel manager Lily Santos-Adrid.

A typical stay in Hotel H2o lasts for two or three days, with the hotel receiving a lot of bookings online. About 60 percent of bookings come from local visitors while foreign visitors are topped by Koreans, Japanese, Americans and Europeans.

The hotel is also attracting corporate bookings who hold their long conventions in the hotel, with matching visit to the nearby Ocean Park.

Jegge meanwhile said they are also looking at other hotels they could partner with in the Philippines for their marketing business with an eye to have as much as 20 hotels under their network in 20 years.
