A UNIT of Lopez-owned ABS-CBN Corp. is bringing in Kidzania, Mexico’s fastest-growing theme park for children, in the Philippines and is investing at least P1 billion to build a facility in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Company officials said in a news conference that the theme park is expected start operations in November next year. About 500 people will be employed by this child-sized replica of a real city and will cater to 600,000 visitors annually with a daily foot traffic of 1,500.

Play Innovations Inc., which has bought the franchise to operate the facility in the country, is 73-percent owned by ABS-CBN Theme Parks and Resorts Inc. and the rest of 27 percent is owned by a group of investors, mainly Singaporean nationals, Cecille Marino, Play Innvovation industry partners director, said.

“Unlike with other countries where Kidzania is in a shopping mall, we will have our own facility to operate,” Marino told reporters.

Kidzania is being marketed for kids aged four to 14 years old, offering role-playing games mostly on learning about different careers, the inner-workings of a city and the concept of managing money.

“Each experience is designed to empower kids, giving them the confidence to be their best selves, and inspiration to be great global citizens,” the company said.

“There is a great market for Kidzania in the Philippines because a huge part of the population is composed of kids and the country is enjoying a strong economy,” Kidzania Global Chief Operating Officer Andres Fabre said.

At the moment, Kidzania has 13 locations in 10 countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia.

Each Kidzania location offers experiences that are relevant to a particular country, culture and geography by way of food, entertainment and professions, it said.

Fabre said the number of its global branches will increase to 25 in two years, and will already include the Philippine franchise.

Privately held Kidzania Inc. was founded in 1997 and opened its first park in 1999 in Santa Fe Shopping Mall in Mexico City.
